Poem Text of To a Young Poet by Edna St. Vincent Millay
Time cannot break the bird's wing from the bird.
Bird and wing together
Go down, one feather.
No thing that ever flew,
Not the lark, not you,
Can die as others do.
Chinese Translation
致一位年輕詩人
時間無法折翼。
鳥與翼,
齊落,共一羽。
凡曾翱翔天空,
像雲雀,像你,
不會隨眾而死。 _________________ 報三恩、耕三大福田 |

Edna St. Vincent Millay was an American poet and playwright. She was the first female recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry. Her most famous poem might be a 1920 poem titled First Fig:
My candle burns at both ends;
It will not last the night;
But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends--
It gives a lovely light!
Thomas Hardy once said that America had two great attractions: the skyscraper and the poetry of Edna St. Vincent Millay. _________________ 報三恩、耕三大福田 |

A good translation. There is nothing I could add to or delete from your piece. _________________ Time is nothing but a disquiet of the soul |

Yes, a faithful and succinct translation of the original poem.

I like the analogy between the bird and its wing and the poet and his/her poetry. _________________ Don't imitate me;

An elitist view on the indelible importance of the writer and his work. _________________ I'm Champagne,

A simple yet thoughful gemlike poem on the human condition. _________________ If one cannot enjoy reading a book over and over again, there is no use in reading it at all. |

Me too. That's one of the main reasons for which I translated her poem. _________________ 報三恩、耕三大福田 |
