My vision of life in multicultural Canada is like eating Chinese hotpot. People of all races and beliefs sit around a table with the hot pot put on the middle. While the hot pot is kept simmering, some cook pork and others leafy vegetables and abalone, some tofu or pomfret, all in one broth sharing with one another. Everyone can choose what she/he wishes to eat as long as the pot and fire are shared along with the good company, which togetherness ensues, soothing their hearts and further warming up their affections foe one another.
Hotpot of communion
Mosaic food is dropped in --
Sounds like Canada.
Note:
CBC Radio One's Sounds Like Canada is one of the most influential radio shows in Canada, aiming to take its listeners to the communities and people who make Canada so diverse, complex and exciting. _________________ Don't imitate me;

Glad to see another person write Haibun on this forum.
Nice one. Enjoyed the theme, very effective imagery - hotpot, a modern Haibun. Thanks for the notes that helps explain the ending line.
Enjoyed it.
By the way, what kind of vegetables are 'lefty vegetables'? |

Sorry, a spelling mistake.
I like to eat dark green leafy vegetables, which are good sources of many vitamins and minerals. _________________ Don't imitate me;

An interesting piece of writing on Canadian multiculturalism.

Hi Fanfan.
You are right. Here the culture is melt into each other.
I like CBC radio too since it includes so many different culture views. _________________

Food as cultural expression.
A good try at engaging with "Two Solitudes" Literature of Canada.

Hotpot dishes are put into the same hot pot, still keeping their distinct tastes and flavours.
It is a multiculturalist hot pot not an assimilationist melting pot. _________________ Time is nothing but a disquiet of the soul |

From the definition of the word 'mosaic', I can picture a variety of food with rich colors mixed in the hot pot. |

A good question.
I will add some "non-Chinese" hotpot dishes. _________________ Don't imitate me;

Yes, I try to present a version of the promise of multiculturalism, which is different from the popularized metaphor for American nationhood and immigration policy, the melting pot. _________________ Don't imitate me;
