昔人已乘黄鹤去
此地空余黄鹤楼
黄鹤一去不复返
白云千载空悠悠
晴川历历汉阳树
芳草萋萋鹦鹉洲
日暮乡关何处是
烟波江上使人愁

相传李白登临黄鹤楼，诗兴大发，正欲题诗，见崔颢诗于壁上，乃搁笔，并有「眼
前有景道不得，崔颢题诗在上头」之说。

AT THE PAVILION WHERE LI PO LAID DOWN HIS PEN

Li Po, who was seldom seen sober in public, once mounted the pavilion
on the shore of Yellow River in Wuhan, China. As he was about to write
a poem on the wall for the occasion, he saw a poem written by Cui Hao, a
contemporary poet. He was so intimidated by the superb poem,
it’s said, that he laid down his pen with a sigh.


I don’t believe he laid down his pen
just to show his humility

there must be more
sober reasons

like, leaving space
for some ambitious future poets
to scribble on

I don't really care what specific writing instrument is used. It is the reason why Li Po put down his pen that interests the reader. And I am glad to read the different thought in this poem other than the generally accepted interpretation by the public.

I read the chinese tranditional poem first, it brought me back to the old time right away. So the image of the poet lingered in my mind.

I still think quill or brush is better to fit the image.

Pen, yes, according to dictionary, includes all the images and meanings. But for me, I pictured my daily-used pen right away. I know it may be just me.

I guess most people will picture the brush anyway.

I read the chinese tranditional poem first, it brought me back to the old time right away. So the image of the poet lingered in my mind.

I still think quill or brush is better to fit the image.
