Moment of Being


When he got in the lecture room, there were no empty seats left. He reluctantly stood, leaning against the wall. The Zen roshi sat at the front of a crowded audience in her gray robe, and her presence radiated an atmosphere of serenity, a sureness that he had never encountered in his life.

"You are like this,” she said while pointing at a pot with blooming flowers by her side. “There is nothing that can be added to you, and nothing that can be taken away. You are complete.”

He felt that she had spoken from within and knew a hidden truth firsthand. It was at this moment that he experienced relaxation in himself as if he had seen the end of striving, struggling, and trying.
