Under The Rubble

For those of you who have suddenly departed
We mourn
Upon reflection we conclude
Decades of neglect you might have escaped!
Sad as it may seem, your bodies now rest in peace
For those of you who are left behind
With cracked bodies and wounded minds
Helplessly gazing in rugged spaces
Scattered pencils and books
Uniforms splashed with red ink
We have no words

Absent from our conscious minds
The awareness of your very existence
Amidst those remote regions
Forgive us
For we remain entangled in our own lives
Struggling to meet its unavoidable demands

Now that the shocks have jolted us all
Sudden awakening
Of our hearts and minds has occurred!
We rush to rescue you
From under the rubble we hear you breathe!
Your eyes filled with dust and debris
Yet we see a sudden spark of hope
As you struggle to survive!
Here we come, hang on to this as we pull you out
Here you are, safe and sound
We are so proud!

For those of you who shiver with fear
Perhaps the worst is yet to come!
Let’s just hope after the heat of the moment is over
You won’t be forgotten once again
