I like this poem very much, I agree with you on most of your review. 非马的这篇文字通俗易懂, True.

However I don’t agree on this: 因为作品有伟大的灵魂. In fact, I think why this poem is so touching is because it depicts the most real feeling of human. It doesn’t matter if she has a great soul or not. In our real life, many writers ignore the feeling and stories of ordinal people. But the unconditional love is the base of our life. It is the strength of human. Currently many poets intend to write very splendid poems to appraise the love and the life and try to magnify them, they forget the most touching pieces are from the depth of our heart. They are not from the words, from the mouth, from the patches of praises.

Yes. They are from the heart, the soul. This poem definitely has its soul; it is from the mother, any ordinary mother with her love to her son. But with your saying: 伟大的灵魂, it may mislead the reader.

In my eyes, this has a true soul, no matter how great or ordinary.

谢谢叶雨的好评文。《越战纪念碑》的英文版曾被几个美国退伍军人网站转载过，也被PBS 的网站Vientam: Stories Since the War 选为 The Wall 栏目的首篇。它同我的另一首题为《国殇日》的诗，都是我自己比较偏爱的关于战争的诗。《国殇日》的英译者是华裔诗人李立扬。该诗三、四年前曾被选入Anthology of Poets Against the War, 后来又被用在纪录片VOICES IN WARTIME里。下面是这首诗：

安葬自越戰歸來
這位無名的兵士

但我們將如何安葬
