(Pavel Friedmann, 4.6.1942)

Yes, well said.
The title of their collection of works of art and poetry is I Never Saw Another Butterfly, which is named after a poem by one of the children, Pavel Friedmann.
What follows is the English edition of 蝴蝶 by Pavel Friedmann:
The Butterfly
The last, the very last,
So richly, brightly, dazzlingly yellow.
Perhaps if the sun's tears would sing
against a white stone. . . .
Such, such a yellow
Is carried lightly 'way up high.
It went away I'm sure because it wished to
kiss the world good-bye.
For seven weeks I've lived in here,
Penned up inside this ghetto.
But I have found what I love here.
The dandelions call to me
And the white chestnut branches in the court.
Only I never saw another butterfly.
That butterfly was the last one.
Butterflies don't live in here,
in the ghetto. _________________ Don't imitate me;
it's as boring
as the two halves of a melon. |

very moving poems, heartfelt sadness.
I haven't read the first one's original, both are very touching.
The second stirred the deep sorrow. I like the second translation.
The first one I didn't read the original. _________________

But I have found what I love here.
And the white chestnut branches in the court. |
But I have found my people here.
And the white chestnut candles in the court.

Pavel Friedmann was born in Prague on January 7, 1921. He was deported to Terezin on April 26, 1942 and later to Auschwitz on September 29, 1944. He was a young adult at the time of writing Butterfly, which inspired a global project, Butterflies of Hope, conceived by The Sydney Jewish Museum (for more details, you can check its website at http://www.sydneyjewishmuseum.com.au/press.asp?p=23)
The English edition on which 非马先生’s Chinese translation was based was an old version.
Butterfly, the title of the poem, functions here as a tragically poignant metaphor, a metaphor used to bridge the gap between the ephemeral life of a "richly, brightly, dazzlingly yellow" butterfly and the life of a young man “penned up inside this ghetto.” _________________ Time is nothing but a disquiet of the soul |

I like the first poem, which vividly describes what it was like inside the Terezin camp.
How sadly strange and filthy things seemed to a child just arriving at a concentration camp! _________________ I came, I saw, and I conquered |

I like the second poem.
Confessions of a Butterfly by Janusz Korczak
I am a butterfly drunk with life.
I don't know where to soar,
but I won't allow life to clip my colorful wings.
Yes, we won't allow the hardship of life to clip our colorful wings. _________________ I am a butterfly drunk with life. |
