A Middle-Aged Man and His Car

This car was a mechanic's gold mine. On more than one occasion, Eric thought it might be cheaper just to pay Danny Tao a monthly fee for the repair service.

"Let me guess," said Danny as soon as he saw Eric. "It won't start?"

"I am thinking that maybe it's a problem with the battery."

"We changed the battery last August."

"So, it's not the battery."

"Could be. You can try to start it again."

As Eric put the key into the ignition, he wasn't sure what he was hoping would happen. The car was past its prime. Buying a new car, or at least a good used car, would definitely spare him a lot of trouble and might make him feel good about himself. He had read somewhere that middle-aged men liked to buy fancy sport cars as a way of recapturing their youth.

"Are you going to start it or not?"

"This is the last time," murmured Eric.

He supposed he was willing to put up with middle age, if he could have a dependable car and didn't complain every time the temperature dropped below freezing.

"Start it," Danny was yelling at Eric.

I should yell at you, Champagne. But, your piece is funny, giving me a good laugh.

Honestly speaking, I deeply hope that English Garden will, through our writing effort, be a communal literature garden of dialogic heterogossia.

By the way, I did give up repairing my old car and leased a new one months ago.

Yes, I would be more willing to put up with middle age, if I could have a dependable car and didn't complain every time the temperature dropped below freezing.

You read too much of you into my bite-sized, internet-speed "fiction," which is a short story about a middle-aged man and his car.

But, I'm glad you like it and you have a good laugh.

Yes, a communal literature garden of dialogic heterogossia.

Yes, you're right. It's a fiction depicting a middle-aged man who had a bold dream: moving from driving an old car to a fancy sports car.

I have a dream, too: words that have changed and still are changing a nation.

You guys are really funny. Keep dreaming, dream as big as you possibly can.

Keep dreaming about buying fancy sport cars as a way of recapturing your youth.

This is a middle-aged man's dilemma: stay with current situation or quit to start over.

Buying a fancy sports car is the easiest and cheapest way out of his dilemma.

Then why it took him so long to realize it.

Is it a coincidence? I also thought this Eric was the Eric on this forum.

Hi Eric,

You know at our office we had a true story about the middle-aged Man.

He worked at home for long time and has developed middle-aged crises because of isolation,

one Saturday he tried to pick up their kids after school, when he got there, the school was empty and when he came back, his kids laughed at him because nobody went to school on Saturday.

Another thing was he forgot how to use the gear when he tried to drive.

So sometimes the stage was very crucial for somebody.

Your story here is humorous.

Thank lake, 星子 for your reading and commenting on my short short story.

A Middle-aged Man and His Car is Everyman's story.
Please, let's get rid of Eric. Too Many Erics on this forum.

Thanks. The story about your colleague is tragicomedically humorous, too.
