natural poem... but not fresh since these images a lot of poems used.

I have written one two years ago, just to share, may be cliche ...

Nostalgia is a Growing Tree

Nostalgia, a growing tree,
Its branches stretch over the tall fence.
I keep manicuring it;
the falling fragments bedew my face.

Its branches stretch over the tall fence,
as a lantern beckons in the distance.
Who holds the light high
to embrace me in its silvery cocoon?

I cannot help reminiscing,
my shattered shadow wrapped inside.
The falling fragments bedew my face;
a growing tree, nostalgia is.

Yes, I admit it’s a little bit of cliché writing, of little cinder blocks of crushed and reprocessed images and experience. Some of ideas come from my remembrance of the early 1980s Taiwanese folk songs, such as Nostalgia and Nostalgia in Four Rhymes

However, for a novice writer like me, the very act of writing clichés expresses a nostalgia for age-old literary bindings between the writer and the reader.

Thank you for your sharing with me your poem. I just wonder what the tall fence refers to and what is the guiding principle for the trimming of the Nostalgia Tree.

I’m homesick as well.

Indeed, the “clichéd images” evoked in your poem helps bind me to my remembrance of my mother.

I wept, as I remembered, how often Mother and I
Had tired the sun with talking, and sent him down the sky.

I’m curious about the answers to the questions raised by Champagne.

现代版 余光中的《乡愁》 Smile

“a long cable line", "a seasonal greeting card" are not archaic images though.

Thanks your question about the tall fence refers to and what is the guiding principle for the trimming of the Nostalgia Tree.

For me, as immigrant, I tried to avoid nostalgia, I trimmed each thought of sadness and built tall fence to protect myself, still nostalgia, a growing tree...

hope it is ok with this explanation.

Hi! Lake:

Nostalgia and Nostalgia in Four Rhymes are adapted from 余光中's poems which enjoy popularity among Taiwanese folk songwriters.

Hi! 星子:

You’re such a resilient person, who keeps trimming the Nostalgia Tree at the gun-mouth of time.

You're a remarkable person capable of withstanding the ravages of time.

Maintain a firm grip of your trimmer at all times as you cut the Nostalgia Tree.

Hi Champagne,

Everyone has a different experience. My Nostalgia is different from yours.

And the sadness of my Nostalgia is very personal, not political.

For me, I came here by my free choice, a lot of people stay also by their free choices.
I trim the tree because I want to focus on the future and on the new life.

Hi! 星子:

Every individual choice is histo-culturally situated because we are being-in-the-world.

One’s being in the world in a concrete situation is not only closely connected with his/her individual historicity in temporal existence but also inseparably tied to his/her communal historicity in spatial existence.

Nostalgia, Heart-beating Noises

The night train had finally stopped at the edge of the ocean.

They had worked all day on the railroad, but at night they built the iron engine that brought them to the edge of the ocean, which points them home. They climbed down from the engine, faces with soot, disguised, in order to dive into the ocean and swim
home.

The moonlight hit the waves and made the surf like bones, white in their faces. Their strokes made in a sea of broken bones, of bone hitting bone, heart-beating noises to men whose black faces held in their souls.

Hi Eric, Thanks for share the hearting beating nostalgia. for what you said, I would like share two poems.

the Great Wall

In my dream, the Great Wall
is a flying dragon,
floating over lush mountains.
My ancestors fight their long journey
towards a peaceful and harmonious land.

From the moon, the Great Wall
is a marvelous totem,
shining with durative sheen.
My contemporaries carry it with esteem,
enhance its solid foundation.

Upon my heart, the Great Wall
is an eternal home,
crossing over the Pacific Ocean.
My offspring will follow its beckoning
towards a root-searching return.

Root Carving

This tree falls
in echoes of the saw.
Roots are pulled up roughly.
Dedicated hands
chisel them until
historical strength appears.

Those dying, once resilient limbs
survived many flashes of lightning.
Our sympathetic eyes frame them
as a symbol of beauty and life.

Turn around,
we cuddle ourselves –
I n layers of cold soil,
transplant our root to another,
the hardship beyond anyone's touch.

Thanks for the sharing of two of your poems.

Root Carving shows not only the historic strength but also historic depth of the carved-out tree root.

But, I am disquieted by the cognitive mapping of The Great Wall of China revealed in The Great Wall, especially by that of the second stanza, which is deeply rooted in the official, propagandized history.

Hi! Anna:

What do you mean by a "marvellous totem"?

It should be understood in the sense of poetic imagination, or of Freudian psychology, or of the physicality of the Great Wall?

I don't think it deeply rooted in the official, propagandized history.
what I mean and admire is that from long time ago, chinese no matter where they are, always keep their self-esteem and hard work to achieve their goals.
My contemporaries I mean a lot of chinese, immigrant to another place and build solid foundation around.
