The 100,000 Poets for Change Event is the biggest world-wide event for poetry!
It's across the globe, from the UK, to all over Europe, to Indian to Thailand, and even in Nairobi!

The event brings together poets and artists to address areas of change in their communities.

The event will be on Sat Sept 27th, 2014, from 4pm-9pm at the Smiling Buddha venue in Toronto. (961 College St, at Dovercourt)

The venue is an indie rock band staple of the TO scene, and has the sound system and vibe to turn a great eve into a smashing good time!

They have a cabaret style show, with Poets, Musicians, Comedy and award-winning Fringe Festival performer Erin Norah Thompson performing an Improv skit! There will also be a very unique opening by Native-American Duke Redbird, that you don't want to miss!

Drinks are cheap, and start at $5, and parking is free for 1 hour, and free after 6pm, all along Dovercourt. 2$ an hour on college. It is also easily accessible from Ossington TTC station, just ride down the College Streetcar to Dovercourt (you'll see the Strbks on the corner, the Smiling Buddha is 2 doors up from that).

Check out the attached Flyer, Poster, and Press Release below to see what CHANGE we are about, WHO will be there, and how we are representing Toronto as one of the most multicultural city in the world.

Toronto, Ontario (September 27, 2014) – marks the fourth annual global event for 100 Thousand Poets
for Change, a grassroots organization that brings communities together to call for environmental,
social, and political change within the framework of peace and sustainability. An event that began
primarily with poet organizers, 100 Thousand Poets for Change has grown into an interdisciplinary
coalition which includes musicians, dancers, painters and photographers from around the world.
Local issues are key to this massive global event as communities around the world raise their voices
on issues such as homelessness, global warming, education, racism and censorship, and this year
Toronto will have two events; at the Smiling Buddha Bar and at the Black Swan Tavern.
All participants are hoping, through their actions and events, to seize and redirect the political and
social dialogue of the day and turn the narrative of civilization towards peace and sustainability.
The Smiling Buddha, 961 College Street at Dovercourt, will feature a vareity of performers including
spoken word artists Duke Redbird, Anna Yin, Ariel Balevi, Jasmine Jackman, David Bateman, and
musicians Chris Birkett, Amy Campbell, Bela Ray, Arlene Paculan and performance artists Erin
Norah Thompson and Lucy Loop, plus many more. Show starts at 4:00 pm and runs until 9:00 pm.
Admission is free.
All fundraising at this show will go towards The Red Door Family Shelter which provides services for
families and individuals who need safe and supportive emergency shelter.
The Black Swan, 154 Danforth Avenue (just west of Broadview), will feature poets Robert Priest, Bruce
Meyer, Brenda Clews, Max Layton, Luciano Iacobelli, Nik Beat, Banoo Zan, and others. Show starts
at 8:00 pm and runs until 11:00 pm.
Check out the “100,000 Poets For Change @ Smiling Buddha Bar” Facebook page for more info.
What kind of CHANGE are we talking about? The first order of change is for poets, writers,
musicians, artists, anybody, to actually get together to create and perform, educate and demonstrate,
simultaneously, with other communities around the world. This will change how we see our local
community and the global community. We have all become incredibly alienated in recent years.
We hardly know our neighbors down the street let alone our creative allies who live and share concerns in other countries. We need to experience this kind of global solidarity.
