ARTISTS SET TO ROCK THE MIC AT WEEKLY OPEN MICS
IN CELEBRATION SQUARE AMPHITHEATRE



MISSISSAUGA, ON - This summer the Mississauga Arts Council (MAC) is teaming with the City of Mississauga to present weekly Open Mics in the Mississauga Celebration Square Amphitheatre. Local artists are welcome to perform at these free events taking place weekly on Wednesdays in July and August. Local artists must call 905-615-4278 to reserve a spot to perform.

In celebration of Mississauga’s rich multicultural and diverse arts scene, each Open Mic will feature a different theme. Additionally, each Open Mic will be hosted by two leading local artists. This unique variety of performers and styles will give audiences a true taste of the artistic diversity in Mississauga. Open Mics serve as an opportunity for artists to test out new material, network, showcase their skills and gain confidence onstage. They are a relaxed and laid-back opportunity for artists to develop and grow as performers.

MAC Executive Director Linda Thomas explains,“Mississauga is an incredible hot-bed of talent. We are so pleased to present an Open Mic each Wednesday this summer which will give the opportunity for two different local artists to host the event and showcase their talents. Our Open Mics are one of the most popular programs presented by MAC as they draw hundreds of musicians from different neighborhoods across the city. We are excited to see the new talent that our summer Open Mics will attract."

July 3, 7pm -9pm - Battle of the Bands
Hosted by singer/songwriter Sarah-Jean Villa and Uforia featuring Michael Ursini

July 10, 7pm-9pm - Anti-Bullying Poetry Slam
Hosted by spoken word poets Wali "Flo" Shah and Zohra Zoberi

July 24, 7pm-9pm - Roots & Reggae Jam Night
Hosted by Chris Graham and Khadijah Lopez

July 31, 7pm-9pm - Global Rhythms with Drum Circle
Hosted by singer/songwriter Carla Casanova, percussionist Greg Noguera and Latintrain

August 7, 7pm-9pm - Theatre & Dance
Hosted by actor/rap artists Stooie and Jay-T

August 14, 7pm-9pm - Wonder Women & Super Men Showcase
Hosted by singer/songwriter Arlene Paculan and comedienne Kat Leonard

August 21, 7pm-9pm - Urban Open Mic Night
Hosted by rap artist David Record and singer/songwriter Janee Olivia

August 28, 7pm-9pm - Indie Music Night
Hosted by singer/songwriters Shyann and Iman Wain
