waiting for my son
in the chess room -
poems line up

reminded by a friend
of his beer poems:
dessert for free

bubbles gush from bottles
beckon me to celebrate
a summer afternoon

clear sky
sunglasses blur my face
aromas of red wine

cherry-shaped lips
around dark chocolate
reflected in glass

following a landscape
the meandering Yangtze river…
and my dreams

azure skies
a distant mountain
still, you wave

mist in your eyes
a veiled moon
at my window

This is a wonderful sequence, Anna! The imagery in the haiku series embraces the day's span, and each is linked to its predecessor. We move from chess to poetry, to bubbles, sunshine, wine, reflections (inner and outer), dreams and mist. Fittingly, the moon closes the piece. Every haiku can stand alone, yet taken together they unfold the speaker's experiences through that single time span. So this is both a single poem, and a collection of shorter poems, all in one.

Nicely done! I like this very much.
