Another hot season approaches
among disturbing headlines.
Oil spills reach the Gulf of Mexico,
rages roar over the warm waves.

Global news unhooks Toyota recall,
focuses on BP uncapped leak.
Whom to blame?
Human beings turn greedy and hold such a short memory.
Calamities follow one after another, all ask for reasons.

Yet those who should take charge retreat,
knowing time is the key --
for oblivion comes to the rescue.

Day by day, I sit beside my son,
listening to him practice piano.
Though I have long lost
faith in humans' future, I feel blessed.
His fingers fly upon black and white,
music pours peace over me.

When night descends,
he sleeps sound with sweet dreams.
Yet I'm wide awake.
I can hear
the crashes of cars,
the ticking of suicide-bombs,
and the dark silence from the shore--
over the filthy oil,
schools of fish float.
