Life is not easy.
We grab it like grasping
a coin in our hand;
hesitating to open;
we fear the truth,
no matter which face it turns up.

Who can blame us?
Coins are of many kinds -
copper, silver, if we are lucky, gold,
but all have cold faces.

So we keep flipping it,
avoiding facing either side.
Hardly getting to know our truth,
light or dark, shallow or deep,
we claim,
we are too busy in this life.

Sooner or later our time is up.
From our pale funeral,
shattered fragments float out;
the life we once lived in
is more mute than our body lying dead .

Hi Anna:

Very very much improved Anna- great to see.
I enjoyed the edit that you have done Apple.

Your poem: "No Surprise" is at the bottom - slighty touch up
for you to do, as you will... my friend. I just hope you can follow

take care

mlDavid

Anna
With your poetry, learn, (as I did) was taught that is -
1. to print your new work out.
2. to Read it out load - not from a computer screen, ok.
3. learn' learn' to Read it out loud, as if you are reading to a gathering of poets,
let the words flow auomatically.
4. keep a pencil/pen handy, as you will find through doing this, you will be surprised, as what you need to alter,
on top of that - even other word will come popping out - believe me!

Apple:
I read Everything - I mean everything,
even the poetry from writers block, it give you the flow of the work, the hidden meanings bedded in the poem.

It becomes natual to you, and ( As Dennis Greene , taught me ) you'd be surprised at the improvement
of your poetry. ( Here I am 14 years latter and I still am learning my art, painting pictures with words, as my canvas.

With Stanza’s Apple
(If some of these were just a straight run on line then I would use a coma in between)
However, a coma is not required when lines are broken in to (2) Separate Lines: understand?

Example:
________________
A run-on-read -- We fear the truth no matter which face,
no matter which face, <---- (pause)
It turns up.

We fear the truth <--can be a pause with no coma. Or straight run-on read)
no matter which face, (pause)
it turns up.

it turn up. <--- this emphasizes – the last line –
yet, also emphasizes – the face ( which face turns up.) (i.e.) of a coin.

Apple
There is a natural pause at the end of a line without a coma, also,
you as the reader can also create the pause naturally, as you go on to read the next line,
(and/or again you can automatically read the two lines as one-run-on should you require to do so,
while reading a poem at a reading gathering.

Anna:
It gives you 2/3 options to use, (i.e.) you, as the poet-reader,
are able to give further emphasis your work, like play a guitar, my friend, instead, it is with words,
and you can do so much with punctuation and words. Apple -

Anna:
The (4.) Stanza’s, I have just lightly touched up punctuation. And
Changed one word in – Stanza (4.)

revised to trim the verses not adding anything...

No Surprise

Like grasping a coin
in our hand, we grab life.
Hesitating to open,
we fear the truth
no matter which face
turns up.

So we keep flipping,
avoid either side.
Blind to the rotating face,
light or dark, cold or hot,
we claim we are too busy
in this life.

Eventually our time is up.
From our pale funeral
fragments float out;
the life we once lived
is muter than our body,
lying dead.
