[anna]

Instead of sitting under an apple tree,
I sit under a pomegranate tree.
Instead of an apple falling,
a lady approaches me.

She has her Bible in hand,
and a lengthy lecture to make.
From the Lost of Eden
to the lasting happiness of today,
she questions my life.

The wind flips my half-finished book,
“the namesake”;
pomegranate fruits fall
and crack.

Snowman
You were my friend, back then.
Sorry, I address to you with the past tense.

Ten years, twenty years later, you are still here,
like a frozen one, settled in my hibernating mind.

I won’t wake you up, I have my promise.
I walk in sleep clothing, watching strangers passing by;
they live under the same roof.
They fade away,
but not you, my friend.

to a rainforest.

On our first thought,
relaxing, as tourists.

But into the deep and dark,
light only visits the tops.

No vague fights, plenty of rains,
rains and humidity.

Layers of lives,
all under the same roof;
some die silently,
others grow upon them.

We never need to teach
each other how to survive,
but grasp all that we have.

the logic is poetic, less actual. good idea.

feeling comes through without being stated in capital letters, bold faced. good.


why two mentions of the pomegranate?

why two mentions of the word "tree" in such a short poem?

pomegranate fruits fall
and crack.


more than one?

why not gather a single pomegrante, leave it behind when you leave.

broken communion.

just a thought.

what do you think?

i understand the issac newton reference, but is it really so important to the poem? the core is the narrator's confrontation with the religious person, the feeling afterwards. no real connection to natural law, gravity or newton.

to me.
