At Night, by the Fire co-authored with ericcoliu (Cinquain)

Clocks ticked;
Time did not pass.
The sun rose, the sun set,
But the shadow remained unmoved.
Clocks ticks.

The poem is tightly framed by this depressing line, "Clocked ticked."

Yes, the clock is ticking now.

An attempt to write a Blyian poem in the form of Cinquain.

IMHO, you need to change the title o f the poem to make it "leaping."

Robert Bly's "leaping poetry?"

Yes.

The repeated lines of "Clocks ticked" are made up of a half of the poem text, if the title line included.

It took me a few reads and I'm still not quite sure if I got it.
It reads like the time is passing by - clocks ticked, sunrise, sunset; but at the same time , time remains still - time didn't pass, shadow remained unmoved.

At least a good thing for the reader to ponder.

Yes. "Leaps" between the inner world and the outer world, between gggg and gggg , and between gggg and gggg . Please fill in the blanks.

Yes.

I took your advice to rename my piece, hoping that it would read like a " Leaping Cinquain."

Yes. What I intended to do is to provoke the reader to think over something seemingly perplexing.

I really appreciate your close reading and thank you for sharing your thoughts.

One needs a "leap of faith" in an aspiring writer's capability to "write something new," and in one's own intellectual curiosity from which one can benefit.

“We all run on two clocks. One is the outside clock, which ticks away our decades and brings us ceaselessly to the dry season. The other is the inside clock, where you are your own timekeeper and determine your own chronology, your own internal weather and your own rate of living. Sometimes the inner clock runs itself out long before the outer one, and you see a dead man going through the motions of living.”

-- Max Lerner

Champagne,

Thanks for the explanation, or allusion (is this the correct term ?). That explains it.

Do you often write with references, I wonder?

Have a nice weekend.

It's an explanation. I just try to explore the inner workings of one's mind through one's temporal perception and tangled feelings past and present.

"time, unfortunately, though it makes animals and vegetables bloom and fade with amazing punctuality, has no such simple effect upon the mind of man. The mind of man, moreover, works with equal strangeness upon the body of time. An hour, once it lodges in the queer element of the human spirit, may be stretched to fifty or a hundred times its clock length; on the other hand, an hour may be accurately represented on the timepiece of mind by one second. This extraordinary discrepancy between time on the clock and time in the mind is less known, it should be and deserves fuller investigation." Orlando by Virginia Woolf

By the way, I've revised my piece.

As a co-author, I would say that the subject matter itself finds its best method and makes the poet at times an "experimentalist."

I wrote an essay on Robert Bly's notion of leaping association based on which this poem was written.

The following are the replies from my fellow poets at Wild Poetry Forum:

Oh, very nice. I love how you go from clock ticked (past) to clock ticks (present) yet time has not past.

I like the mystery here.

-- Cate

Enclosed into one’s self, unaware of the world outside,
frozen in time.

Definitely a mystery.

-- Rodney L. Eisenbrandt

Chen-ou, I love creative works that have to do with the mutable subject of time. Now I am happy.

-- M. Kathryn Black

Chen,
I love this--the verb tense change, the unchanged shadow, the time not passing. Mysterious, unexpected.

-- Ann Metlay

Yes. Thank you for the read and filling the blanks.

You definitely took a leap of faith in my "leaping association" of images.
