Day in, Day out co-written by ericcoliu
Waking up, helping my children and husband get ready for their day, breakfast, riding the TTC to my workplace near downtown Toronto, three hours in the office, lunch and gossip with my co-workers, only another five hours of work (if lucky), riding the TTC home, dinner, doing domestic chores and fighting (oh, no; the correct word is negotiating) with the children, joining my husband to watch TV, sleep (sorry! I forget one thing here: fulfilling the marital obligation if I still have the energy or the desire). Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday follow the same rhythm (remove office work-related activities from the daily schedule on weekends and holidays).
Are there any significant differences between a workday and a day off? One gets up in the morning, goes to work during the day, comes back home and takes a rest after work. One day follows another. It seems no way to escape from the hours and the days. Neither from tomorrow nor from yesterday. But what if one day when I’m just too damned tired of this routine, the “why” of it all arises in my mind? _________________ Don't imitate me;

The abovementioned schedule is faithfully followed most of the time and I set my mind to it, firmly. But what if one day the “why” arises in my mind after I’m tired of this damn routine? |
A contemporary woman's version of The Myth of Sisyphus.
The very use of the Sisyphus imagery implies the dark side of the brilliant success of being a mother, wife and career woman. _________________ I came, I saw, and I conquered |

Yes, it is really a Sisyphean toil, an endless and heart-breaking and mind-exhausting job.
A Day in Her Life
She passed the kitchen clock hung on the wall, glanced at it, then gasped and murmured to herself, "There won't be enough time!" She wouldn't have enough time to make the bed, wash the dishes, clean the mirrors, and to vacuum the carpets so that she could get the dinner ready. All of this took place on some interior schedule that she followed faithfully. What she has been doing with her life is to clean her house more efficiently.
Today, like another day in her past life, she kept asking herself, "Can I do better than I am doing? ... Is my house right as to its sanitary arrangement? ... Can I make the best use of my time?"
She started a new day by cleaning her house, and no matter how well it had been done yesterday, she willed to make new gains every day, or else be a failure. _________________ I'm Champagne,

Woman won't feel absurd ("too damned tired of this routine") until she becomes aware of her situation ("the 'why' of it"). _________________ Don't imitate me;

One day the "why" arises and everything begins in that weariness, which awakens consciousness and provokes what follows. _________________ Time is nothing but a disquiet of the soul |

Day in, Day out
Sometimes, I think there are no significant differences between a workday and a day off; everyday kind of ends up the same for me. Yes, it’s all the same: that the sun rises and sets; that one day follows another; that one should get up in the morning, go to work during the day, come back home and take a rest after work. It seems no way to escape from the hours and the days. Neither from tomorrow nor from yesterday. But what if one day when I’m just too damned tired of this routine, the “why” of it all arises in my mind? |

Making a comparative reading of fanfan's and Champagne's pieces is intectually and emotionally challenging.
As ericcoliu noted in his reply, "One day the 'why' arises and everything begins in that weariness, which awakens consciousness and provokes what follows." _________________ My throat knew thirst before the structure

Yes, the big difference between the protagonist of my piece and that of Champagne's is that my protagonist dreads the awareness of the "why." _________________ Don't imitate me;
