Poem lyrics of The Lockless Door by Robert Frost.
It went many years,
But at last came a knock,
And I thought of the door
With no lock to lock.
I blew out the light,
I tip-toed the floor,
And raised both hands
In prayer to the door.
But the knock came again
My window was wide;
I climbed on the sill
And descended outside.
Back over the sill
I bade a "Come in"
To whoever the knock
At the door may have been.
So at a knock
I emptied my cage
To hide in the world
And alter with age. _________________

The Lockless Door tells a story of self escape, figuratively describing a man running away from what his conscience brings him.
The poem begins with a surprising knock at a lockless door, and the speaker of the poem prays that whatever is behind the door will go away. Soon after the second knock, he escapes out of the window and away from it. But he has a sort of nervous curiosity, and he climbs back up to sill and he tells it to come in. In the end, he fails to open the door and he runs out into the world to hide and age.
Figuratively speaking, a door is an entryway between two spaces, each of which is organized around a different set of norms and meanings. An entry through a door is border-crossing, a movement which brings about a change in consciousness and ideation. The door without a lock means that there is no external but rather a internally imposed mechanism to control border-crossing. The imagery of hiding and escaping runs through the entire poem as it ends with a pitifully Heideggerian portrait of inauthentic being-toward-death:
To hide in the world
And alter with age. _________________ Time is nothing but a disquiet of the soul
