Call for Submissions: Wax Poetry and Art
Submissions are open to Canadian residents only. Wax Poetry and Art accepts submissions in many genres including poetry, visual art, photography, fiction, spoken word, and music. The Cottage Life Al Purdy Potty Poetry Contest
Sponsored by Cottage Life and the Al Purdy A-frame Association, which is restoring Al’s iconic cottage as a writers’ retreat. The Purdy cabin is a national literary treasure, where Al wrote and entertained such CanLit giants as Margaret Laurence, Milton Acorn, and Michael Ondaatje. Cottagers love potty poems! Potty poems tell guests how not to gum up the septic system. Almost every cottage has a potty poem hanging in the bathroom. Write a new classic potty poem for a chance to win! Prizes include cash, signed Purdy first editions, and the winning poem will be posted in the A-frame and published in Cottage Life. Enter as many poems as you like. Poems must be no more than 20 lines in length. Early Bird Draw: Enter by April 1, 2015, for a chance to win a signed Al Purdy first edition and a Cottage Life sweatshirt. Contest closes May 1, 2015. EVENT Magazine’s Annual Non-Fiction Contest
Writers are invited to submit manuscripts exploring the creative non-fiction form. Deadline: April 15, 2015 (postmarked/online). Entry Fee: $34.95 (includes 1 year of EVENT). Multiple entries are allowed; however, each entry must be accompanied by a separate fee. No simultaneous submissions. Maximum entry length is 5000 words, typed, double-spaced. Self-Directed Residencies: The Caetani Cultural Centre, Vernon, BC
The Caetani Cultural Centre, Vernon, BC, offers artists and writers independent creative living and working spaces in a community atmosphere and heritage setting for self-directed residencies, providing time, support and room for creativity, at affordable rates. Self-directed residencies are of varying lengths of time, from 2 weeks to 6 months, to suit the individual needs of the applicant. Fees are based and pro-rated on length of stay. Artists are expected to provide their own food, materials and transportation. We are occasionally able to partner with sponsors to provide an honorarium or free accommodation/workspace. We also partner with community and educational organizations for presentation and workshop opportunities. These opportunities are listed separately on our website. Now Accepting Applications for Residencies for 2016: Al Purdy A-frame
Thanks to generous sponsorship, it has been an exciting McClelland & Stewart* Summer at the Purdy A-frame. The Purdy Picnic was a smashing success as was Katherine Leyton's How Pedestrian project. Katherine's residency ended August 31 and the new writers-in-residence are Nick Thran and Sue Sinclair. Information about events will be posted soon. Over the winter we hope to finish the necessary work on Al's writing shed so if you are considering a donation it would be timely. The Al Purdy A-frame Association is now accepting applications for residencies for 2016. Information and applications procedures are posted on our website www.alpurdy.ca.
