MARTYS FEVER! The 20th annual MARTY Awards took place last Thursday night and saw both new
and established artists showered with praise, recognition and media attention. Each category
honoured an emerging artist and established artist, with all winners receiving a cash prize of $1,000,
and recognition at the MARTYS award ceremony. In addition to recognizing local talent, special awards
were presented to individuals who have nurtured the development of the arts in the City of
Mississauga. New this year was a keynote speech offered by Ernie Singleton, legendary record
producer and CEO of Singleton Entertainment. Singleton offered advice to new and established
artists on growing and improving their careers, and the importance of community arts organizations
in launching superstars. Singleton has over 140 gold and platinum sales records, and has worked
with many established artists. This year's ceremony featured performances from keyboardist and
composer Davor Jordanovski, Indian classical artist Naqi Ali Khan, trip hop soul jazz fusion artist
Shyann, and Leslie Carney and Christine McMahon from Clarkson Musical theatre. Guests were welcomed to the red carpet by Andre Anthony Reid and the after party was entertained by Michael
Ursini. The night was co-hosted by John McAneney from The Johnny Max Band and Stephanie
McKenzie, local media personality. The 2014 MARTY winners are: Emerging Literary Arts: Larissa

Choice: Monster Rock Orchestra. The People’s Choice award voting was a huge success as more
than 7,500 people from Mississauga voted for their favourite artist/ group from the city. Make sure
