I want to thank the judges, Mississauga Arts council and the sponsors of this event. I also want to thank my family and friends for your support. I feel honored to receive this award. MARTY awards have become our city’s recognition for artists. I am proud to have become a part of this important event. For 10 years I have passionately written poetry and promoted poetry. Last year I was elected to be the Ontario representative for the League of Canadian Poets. My poem was selected to be displayed on 700 buses across Canada for the Poetry In Transit project. This year I was invited to read my poems on Parliament Hill to celebrate Chinese New Year. I am glad poetry is reaching out through all these events. A few days ago, I was interviewed by Rogers TV and I was asked what I think about the idea that poetry is dying… well, What do you think about it? Could we say that this award proves poetry isn’t dying. Poetry is found in our daily lives and poetry reflects and connects our souls. I designed Poetry Alive Education program to share my experience about the importance of poetry and to show it is alive. I am glad to receive great feedback from libraries, schools and media. I believe no matter how far we can go, by marching ahead, we are on the journey with a hope. Thank you all for your support. This award means a lot not just for me but for all poets. Thanks.
