THE MISSISSAUGA ARTS COUNCIL ANNOUNCES 2014 MARTY AWARDS HOSTS!
Stephanie McKenzie & John McAneney are ready to take centre stage

MISSISSAUGA, ON – The Mississauga Arts Council (MAC) is thrilled to announce the 2014 MARTY Awards will feature co-hosts Stephanie McKenzie and John McAneney from the Johnny Max Band. This is the first time in MARTY Award history that there will be two hosts. It's all happening on Thursday, May 8th, 2014, starting with a red carpet reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by the show from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Living Arts Centre’s Hammerson Hall, located at 4141 Living Arts Drive.

This year marks the 20th Anniversary of Mississauga's MARTY Awards, recognizing both established, as well as emerging artists in the community for their artistic achievements. The 2014 arts award ceremony will have a “Multicultural World Talent” theme, combining World Talent on a Local Scale.

Both McKenzie and McAneney are past MARTY Award recipients. In 2012, John McAneney from the Johnny Max Band (JMB) received a MARTY Award for his band in the Established Performing Group Arts category. Check out his video testimonial for his experience winning the award and what it meant to win a MARTY Award for him here.

Johnny McAneney was born in Glasgow, Scotland. He's been the lead singer of JMB for 20 years, playing across Canada, the US, and Europe; achieving nominations for two JUNO Awards and eight Maple Blues Awards, plus winning the International Songwriting Competition for their critically-acclaimed track, Daddy's Little Girl. Johnny also hosts Sunday Morning Soul (a syndicated radio show airing on seven stations across Canada and the US), he is creator of the CNE Bandshell Bluesfestival, and is part of the Mississauga Blues & Roots Association.

Stephanie McKenzie was the recipient of the 2013 MARTYS People's Choice Award, capturing over 51% of the votes among 91 nominees. She is back again- this time as a host! Stephanie is a strong community-oriented individual and sought after on-air personality who has appeared on thehazefm.ca and hosted many events in the past such as Buskerfest, the South Side Shuffle, along with multiple networking seminars to name a few. Voted Clarkson Village's Business Person of the Year in 2013, McKenzie is also a Maxim Hometown Hottie (2011), former Sports Illustrated and UFC model, as well as a featured Sunshine Girl.

McKenzie brings beauty, brains and comic relief to the stage; while John McAneney is renowned for using his good natured wit and not always following conventional lines to entertain a crowd. Together on May 8th, Stephanie and John are sure to make the 2014 MARTY Awards a night to remember. Check out their promotional video here. Be sure to join them as they honour Mississauga's diverse and talented arts community!

Nomination forms are available now on the MAC website at www.mississaugaartscouncil.com/martys. The deadline for submissions is Monday. February 10, 2014 at 4 p.m. New this year: No nominator needed. Everyone can apply for a MARTY Award, so what are you waiting for?! Apply for a MARTY today!

MARTY Award categories include: Literary; Media; Performing; Performing Group; and Visual Arts. Other awards are presented to individuals who have nurtured the development of the arts in the City of Mississauga. These special MARTY Award categories include: The Hazel McCallion Volunteer of the Year Award; the Laurie Pallett Patron of the Arts Award; the Creative Community Award, and the People’s Choice Award. Everyone will be invited to vote for their favourite artist for the People’s Choice Award.
