World Poetry International Festival!
The Little Festival that Could - Running on Faith, Love and Hope!
World Poetry Invitation Letter.
Dear Cherished Poets and Supporters,
Even though you may not be able to attend, please send good thoughts and wishes. You will be with us in spirit. This is our first two day festival and we are running on Faith, Love and hope!
We are honoured to invite you to come to our first World Poetry International Festival with our partners, the City of Richmond and others. You can enjoy international poets, local poetry groups, musicians and dancers as well as a youth panel at the World Poetry International Festival, opening May 14 at 10 am at the Richmond Cultural Centre, 100-7000 Minoru Gate, Richmond, BC, Canada. The World Poetry International Festival is bringing together international poets and local multicultural poetry groups. There will be a First Nations welcome, dignitaries, music and a proposed Gala on Sunday night. Each selected international poet will present their poetry, launch a book, or read a paper. An International Peace prize will be presented. Local poetry and writers groups are also presenting. We are anticipating up to 100 people to attend.

World Poetry Background Information.
The World Poetry Organization was created by Ariadne Sawyer and Alejandro Mujica-Olea and has been in existence for over 12 years with the goal to provide a much-needed venue where multi-cultural, multi-national poets, writers, and those in other artistic disciplines could perform in English and in their language of origin. The World Poetry Reading Series at the Vancouver Public Library, World Poetry Café Radio Show on CFRO, The World Poetry Electronic Newsletter, World Poetry Publishing, World Poetry Workshop Series, World Poetry Night Out, and the World Poetry Celebration Series are all components of a World Poetry movement based in Vancouver, BC Canada. Recently, World Poetry has included World Poetry International with our first two international committee members: Dr. Hadaa Sendoo in Mongolia and Dr. Rita Malhotra in India. World Poetry’s foundation is built on the great need to provide respect, honor, support, peace and love for all through the arts and education.

In the Vancouver, BC area, there are over 500 World Poetry poets, writers, musicians from 64 countries including a strong First Nations and Canadian component. The World Poetry Electronic Newsletter, has 5, 032 readers including participants. The World Poetry Café Radio Show is on every Tuesday from 9-10 pm PST is listened on the internet in at least 28 countries on a regular basis.

One of World Poetry's mandates is to work with other groups and art disciplines in creating partnerships. Some successful partnerships have been the eight year partnership ExplorASIA celebrating ExplorASIAN (Asian Heritage Month in May, The Women and Film Festival, TVA Film Company, The Vancouver Public Library (a ten year partnership) The City of New Westminster, The City of Richmond, Gung Haggis Fat Choy World Poetry, Word on the Street, The First Nations Longhouse, The Arts Council of New Westminster, Poetic Justice, The Backroom Theatre Club, Ricepaper Magazine, Poetry Around the World and many others.

New Celebration Series: World Poetry Celebrates the World! A multimedia show with poetry, music, dance and special effects with possible partners in Vancouver, LA and shows in China, India and Mongolia.

October 2010, World Poetry New Westminster Night Out began at Urth Café in New Westminster, BC. Moving from Behind the Scenes Café on West Broadway in Vancouver, it is a monthly venue with two women’s hosts. In November, with the closure of Urth café, World poetry New Westminster began a cherished partnership with the New Westminster Public Library. World Poetry Night Out New Westminster meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month, at 6:30 pm. Featured poets, open mike refreshments and a book raffle. Special times are set aside for children and youth. World Poetry New Westminster has our first World poetry Youth Ambassador, 11 year old Danielle Jones. World Poetry New Westminster joins our sister groups such as the Backroom Theatre Club and Poetic Justice in special events and is proud to work closely with the New Westminster Poet Laureate Candice Jones.

World Poetry Reading Series website: www.worldpoetry.ca launched officially in June 2010. It features poets from around the world, a children’s site, a World Poetry store, the World Poetry Café Radio show, and festival information. World Poetry Canada & International face book closed group, a vibrant group of amazing poets.

World Poetry Multicultural International Festival, May 14-15 with our honoured partner the City of Richmond, BC, Canada and other key partners.

Upcoming Special events: The Life Celebration of Pauline Johnson and Tagore’s 150.

World Poetry is a volunteer-based organization that does not receive any money from the government or grants.
World Poetry is actively looking for international and local partnerships which would bring the world together in respect, peace and harmony.
