FREE TALK: BARRY LORD AND GAIL DEXTER LORD ON WHY CULTURE CHANGES Wednesday, October 27, 7 pm, at the Art Gallery of MississaugaBarry Lord and Gail Dexter Lord are the Co-Presidents of Lord Cultural Management, international specialists in the planning and management of heritage, culture and the arts. Join them at the Art Gallery of Mississauga as they talk about their new book Artists, Patrons and the Public: Why Culture Changes.

OCTOBER 31 LAST DAY TO SEE JULIE ANDREYEV: PASSAGESpassages features FWDrift, which is an audio-video collage of a drive around Mississauga with local participants Linda Thomas and Niwah Visser. FWDrift team Julie Andreyev and Simon Lysander Overstall created FWDrift [remix] in front of opening reception guests at the Art Gallery of Mississauga. passages also features Animal Lover, a video series that presents an intimate, revealing portrait of Julie's pet dogs Tom and Sugi, as they interact with the viewer and the city of Vancouver.

GALLERY CLOSED FOR INSTALLATION: Monday, November 1 - Thursday, November 4

NOVEMBER 4 6 PM OPENING RECEPTION Abraham Anghik Ruben: Shaman's DreamsThere will be a FREE shuttle bus from the Gladstone Hotel (1214 Queen St W) at 7 pm. Bus will return for the Gladstone at 9 pm. Abraham Anghik Ruben will give an informal talk at 8 pm.Sculptor Abraham Anghik Ruben brings the old stories of his Inuit people to life. This Shaman's Dreams exhibition invites the viewer to drift into a space of this spiritual transformation in which man inhabits the animal and both become one. This metamorphosis is captured as the Shaman's body and soul becomes the spirit of the bear, the whale, the walrus, the raven, or possibly the eagle. Ruben, who has lived on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia since 1986, was born just south of Paulatuk and east of the Mackenzie River Delta in the Northwest Territories. His great-grand parents were noted Shamans who came from the Bering Sea region of Alaska. Exhibit runs until Thursday, December 23rd.

INDIE SOUL SESSIONS SUNDAY AFTERNOON CONCERTS AT THE ART GALLERY OF MISSISSAUGA
November 7th, December 5th, January 16th, February 6th 3 - 4 pm Admission: Pay What You Can Cash Bar Enjoy a relaxing Sunday afternoon with the Indie Soul Session concert series at the Art Gallery of Mississauga. Performances feature contemporary soul-jazz artist Julie Crochetière and other indie musicians. Check out Julie's music at http://www.myspace.com/juliecmusic.

FREE INUIT ART TALKS PRESENTED IN CONJUNCTION WITH ABRAHAM ANGHIK RUBEN: Shaman's Dreams Thursday, November 18, 7:30 - 8:30 pm Heather M. Beecroft speaks about Abraham Anghik Ruben and the co-op system. Heather is a frequent lecturer on Canadian art, Inuit art and culture, and Norval Morrisseau. She has also published "Tuvaq", a chapter in Reflections from Inside the Cooperative in 2010. Thursday, December 2, 7 - 8:30 pm Anna Stanisz, acting manager of education at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, speaks on contemporary Inuit art. Anna administers the McMichael Collection's school programs and participates in the development of these programs, which support the Ontario curriculum. She also develops training materials for the gallery's docents.
