BLUE METROPOLIS TRANSLATION SLAM AT LUMINATO, TORONTO FESTIVAL OF ARTS AND CREATIVITY.
At 6 p.m. on Saturday evening, June 19, 2010 at the Isabel Bader Theatre in downtown Toronto, the Blue Metropolis Translation Slam will highlight the art of literary translation in partnership with Luminato, Toronto Festival of Arts and Creativity.
This event is free. Isabel Bader Theatre is on 93 Charles Street West.
The Blue Metropolis Translation Slam at Luminato presents 2009 Griffin Poetry prize-winner A. F. Moritz reading one of his poems in English, and two translators Ainong Ma and Lien Chao reading translations into Mandarin each has worked on independently. With the help of bilingual host Yan Liang, the event is interactive and fun for both participants and the audience. Since the translations are invariably very different, the Slam is an ideal way to highlight the art of literary translation – and the difference each translator makes.
Blue Metropolis Translation Slam is the signature event of Blue Metropolis Foundation and has been a popular mainstay at our annual Literary Festival since the very beginning in 1999. This Mandarin and English version of the Blue Metropolis Translation Slam moves to the Canada Pavilion at the World Expo 2010 as well as to Shanghai Writers' Association on September 13 and 14. The Canada Pavilion's cultural programme is produced by Cirque du Soleil on behalf of the Government of Canada. |
