I Hope You Dance


It is 10 o’clock. My son sleeps soundly.
I take a walk along the long trail.
Moon shines and I bring my IPod.
It plays I hope you dance.

The neighborhood is picturesque.
The mowed grass scent fresh.
No dog barks and two teenagers
linger in the front porch, kissing.

I remember once I was one of them,
stars falling into my eyes.
I lift my arms
in the warm wind and dance.

There is always a moment
to be oneself. In the moonlit trail,
I dance alone with a full sense
of wonder.

The Farewell Symphony
----listening to Haydn

Another clear and blue sky,
out in wild fields reeds stretch.
Among thin branches birdcalls fade;
rivers rise and gather fallen leaves.

Shadows darken and fences tall,
hills slumber in shattered hues.
Winds spiral in deep valleys,
whose home, candles still beckon?

Soon snow will blanket everything below;
wild geese preen then take off.
Their raucous echoes fall,
then drown and drown
in pale ebbs.
