English Garden, my reflection on the recent heated debates among fellow poets

English Garden --
A small pond where lone poets,
drunk with desire and longing,
sit alone and reflect upon themselves.

Note:

English Garden is my reflection on the recent heated debates about writing, reviewing, and translating poetry and about being an good reader of the works by other writers among fellow poets.

Share with all of my fellow poets a poem by Rumi:

From myself I am copper,
through You, friend, I am gold.
From myself I'm a stone, but
through You I am a gem!

A thoughtfully reflective piece of writing.

Your points made through the imagery of the narcissistic, lone poet, which is the antithetical imagery to that of This was a poet, are well taken.

However, I just wonder if you learn anything from these heated debates you cited above?

Another Confucian Confusion!?

I sit alone
By the lake of mind
I see your face
Beneath the water
We never get tired
Of gazing at each other
I call out to you
Silently comes an echo
I dedicate these moments
To you alone, for you
I groom myself

( My piece, A Confucian Confusion, is posted at http://coviews.com/viewtopic.php?t=36797 )

You're really an attentive and demanding reader of these above-mentioned debates.

drunk with desire and longing,

This line has a poetic touch of Sufism.

Sufis compare our world with a tavern, a house of drinks, which intoxicate. They say get drunk, if you like, with the drinks of the world.

This poem, in my view, would be the perfect conclusion of "the recent heated debates among fellow poets" if they are willing to learn from one another. But, I just wonder how many of them will do so if they just "sit alone and reflect upon themselves."

Then, their reflections are reflected back upon themselves.

Correctly speaking, it's another Confucian-style reflection because

fanfan 写到:

Then, their reflections are reflected back upon themselves.

It's also my question because I'm not sure about Chu Hsi's answer.

Is it because our "desire and longing" will drain out "the water of life" and thus no spring will come?
