After I read more on China Culture Organization link, I really want to recommend it to a lot of friends. For myself, I also make a plan to read each list in detail.
It will not only improve my English but also refresh my knowledge on our Chinese Culture.
Before when western friends mentioned to me of "Three words", I had no clue what they talked about.
Now I know that they mean Feng Menglong's Words to Instruct, Words to Warn and Words to Awaken. It is a pity that I almost forget some of our traditional treasure.
Another example is "The Book of Poetry"(ShiJing); I hardly recite any poem from it.
Now after I read its brief introduction provided by the link, I gained fresh insight on it and wanted to read more poems in that book.
The Book of Poetry has three parts -- Feng (The Book of Songs), Ya (Odes and Epics) and Song (Hymns).
The Book of Songs is the most significant segment of The Book of Poetry. It collected more than 100 folksongs of the Zhou Dynasty (11th century - 256BC) which recounted the real life of common people, and expressed people's indignation about oppression and their yearning for a happy life. Many are in a poetry form with stories inside with each line short and in rhyme. It is said that The Book of Songs is the wellspring of Chinese realist poetry.
As I observe, Chinese poetry is very different from Western Poetry, no matter in traditional form or for modern verses. Even in the very early Chinese poetry, “Fu”, “Bi”, “Xin” applies in various place to emphases the subtle emotion and meaning. It seems in Chinese literature, there is an inside mirror, For different readers the views could be various. Sometimes this kind of traits also reflects on the difference between Chinese music and Western music. It is very interesting to notice these peculiarities.
