UNDER THE TREE*

I sat under the tree,
Stretching my hands greeting thee.
My dove, my friend,
I saw my Dad waving his hand
Greeting doves flying .
In a sky so blue, a Tokyo's day**.

We lost blue creeks
We possess less green.
Home is the best,
Yet we long for a better than best.

Looking around,
Looking up and down,
The Tokyo's photo dimmed into the past,
Stripping me of the illusion gone so fast.

Hello, Dad, your son's here
Greeting doves as you did the other year
On the lawn we crave for
Under a Huntington's tree never seen before.


*The poem was written in 1993 in an American city called Huntington where for the first time I saw the Dogwood tree.

**My father visited Tokyo, Japan in 1990 and told us that the city was clean with blue sky and green lawn.
