The Holy River

The Holy River
Before they show it to me,
they give me their warnings.
At the sight of the floating corpse,
I vomit by the muddy river.
Holy, this is the name they call it,
crowded by the rags, the homeless on its filthy shores,
and millions of sick, dying people bathing in the water -
with hopes to pursue their after death.
The wild dogs and vultures cluster nearby,
waiting in patience;
not caring about promises of healing and re-birth,
they feast on the river’s beckon-
more and more followers.
