About Chinese face

There is always critique about anything. That is ok. But it is not ok when there are always some voices trying to stir up conflict and break the peace.
Like many others, I have watched 2008 Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony for many times. I absolutely love it and admire the whole team’s creativity and splendid ideas.
Yet today’s news annoys me. It is written to discuss Chinese Face.
After almost ten years living in the Western world, I am used to the self-center culture and so-called open-mind world. I found when the topic is about China, the misunderstanding soars immediately. All the way along, the misleading of a few media contributes a lot.
Sure, in Chinese traditional culture, Face is very important. We are expected to be polite to our guests, to be model for others. We are expected to show the good side and suppress any personal needs. For big shows, it is obvious that people expect the performance to be excellent and perfect.
It is kind of Chinese culture. The two little girls who should be chosen in the 2008 Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony, there were many concerns. I understand the directors want to try their best to make the show perfect, besides, with the pressure of many Chinese and critics are not tolerant to see any imperfection. Thankfully most Chinese thrill to be perfect. Many of them understand the whole team work and they willingly cooperate. They believe that taking participation is already an honor, especially for 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Thus I disagree on the review from the western world or from the circle of Chinese forum that switching the voice is a lie. I believe it is their good intention and arrangement to make the opening ceremony even dramatic and perfect to entertain the whole global audience. It may be a mistake, but thinking of the whole night many highlight and success, I still think they made a wonderful achievement and deserve our support and applauses.
In real life, I am more concern about the too-much-freedom media and the emphasizing Hollywood life style which shed much bad influence on our next generations with alluring s-e-x, violence and drug.
I really hope those who try to denounce Chinese face should focus on the positive themes of 2008 Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony: Peace, Harmony, Love, Nature etc. I hope we all prepare a good spirit, positive mind, and open heart for the continue journey.
