My first cycling,
my father helped me mount
the scary giant,
pushed me to keep pedaling.

"All you need is balance." he said.

From home to school, from school to park,
or someplace I always knew,
I cycled along.

The curves and bumps I feared,
I heard my father's voice:
"Just keep focus."

Cycling on my journey,
I moved from one city to another.

When confused by destination,
I remember his words:
"All you need is to try. "

Now it is my kids' turn to learn.
They fall and cry.

hardly remembering
my falls,
I smile and say,
All you need ...
as my father said.

Although the unbalanced distribution of narrative space, I like the wheel of family tradition portrayed in the poem.

I just wonder what you mean exactly by “Zen.” Lessons?

Hi Eric and christine,

Both should be "Zen".

Zen: lessons or 禅.

This one is made for an cycling event. Not sure how to improve it yet. see "MAKE" !

I was invited to read this at the end of Ceremony to open Ted Ho trail in our city (Mississauga) on Sept 13.

So I will bring this poem for workshop next week to see if it can be polished.

"Don’t worry. Just keep focus. “

Cycling on my journey,
I moved from one city to another.
When confused by destinations,
I remembered his words --
"All you need is to try. "

Now it is my kids’ turn.
They fall and cry.

Hardly remember
my falls,
I smile and say,
All you need ...
as my father once said.

登上那可怕的巨物，
让我不停地脚蹬。

保持平衡就好了，他笑着说。

从家到学校，从学校到公园
或者其他我所知道的地方，
我一路行骑。

所有我担心的弯折和路障，
我听见父亲的声音，
“别怕，集中注意力。 ”

我的旅途，
从一个城市行驶到了另一个。
每次迷途，
我总记得他的话 --
试了就知道。

现在轮到我的孩子。
他们跌倒并且哭泣。

已经忘了曾经也摔倒的我，
微笑着说，
保持平衡。。。
如同当年
我的父亲所说。
