1 The 9/21 earthquake, also known as the Chichi Earthquake (集集大地震), occurred on September 21, 1999 in central Taiwan and measured 7.3 on the Richter Scale. The aftershocks continued to violently rock Taiwan throughout the night. Its epicentre was located in Chichi, Nantou County. According to the National Fire Agency under the Ministry of the Interior R.O.C (Taiwan), the damage caused by the earthquake is as follows: 2,416 deaths (including missing people), 11,443 severely wounded, US$9.2 billion worth of damage, 44,338 houses completely destroyed, and
41,336 houses severely damaged.

2 The 5/12 earthquake, also known as the Wenchuan Earthquake (汶川大地震), occurred on May 12, 2008 in Sichuan province of China and measured 7.9 on the Richter Scale. Its epicentre was located in Wenchuan County, 80 kilometres west-northwest of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan. The earthquake was felt as far away as Beijing and Shanghai, where office buildings swayed . At the moment the strong and continuous aftershocks make it difficult to carry out relief work. The damage caused by the earthquake, as of May 29, 12:00 CST, is as follows: 68,516 are confirmed dead, including 68,007 in Sichuan province, 365,399 injured, with 19,350 listed as missing, and about 4.8 million people homeless, though the number could be as high as 11 million.

以此詩弔念九二一地震的受難者：

那一夜，在客廳玩拼圖
時間越來越晚，版圖還那麼大，
我想，等中秋節時
姊姊回家，再一起完成。

是誰在搖我？
我已經長大了，而且睡著
是誰將我搖入更深沉的眠睡中？

我睡了很久，
天一直沒亮；
但我聽到姊姊在門外喊
「弟弟，你在哪裡？」

然後我夢見，
自己和爸爸變成兩片拼圖，
躺在扭曲變形的圖框外，
沒有人將我們，
放回「家」的缺塊中。
