Live with Toronto
Toronto is thick with dreams
The streets are layered with stories
Dense with emotions and desires
The display windows are covered with fantasies
Replete with imagination and frustration
Above the skyscrapers are clouded with PC talks
Hanging there like smog. _________________ I'm Champagne,

Downtown Toronto, A Square Existence
Eyes look out
from the square windows
of a room.
They are immediately themselves looked at
by rows of square windows
of other high-rise buildings. _________________ Time is nothing but a disquiet of the soul

Life on the page is challenging, sometimes exhausting.
Good luck with your writing.
Walking on the street of Toronto
Walking on the street of Toronto
People pass by each other, so ferocious
They are lurching forward with such fierceness
Greedy determination for life
I do not understand them
Maybe I'm with them with the same purpose _________________ I'm Champagne,

Living in Toronto
The stories of the high-rise buildings hold people's faces upward.
The displays of the food stands carve human stomachs.
The windows of the shopping malls flash with lustful eyes.
On Bay Street, people can not buy the appearance of time with bank notes.
In China town, human hands do not carry the weight of souls.
Inside the cathedral, God's eye is not covered by prayers. _________________ Time is nothing but a disquiet of the soul |

Thanks for your information regarding writing competition.
Toronto, Twisted
A tongue has no bones
Twist it in any direction if you like
And it will turn that way
I live with my twisted tongue in Toronto
A meeting place of borrowed tongues _________________ Time is nothing but a disquiet of the soul |

Toronto in Deep Freeze
Toronto is in deep freeze
At minus twenty Celsius:
No fluffy soft snow decorating the cityscape,
No dry powdery snow letting through the fingers,
Only a thick layer of frost underneath the feet. _________________ I'm Champagne,

The First Snow in Toronto
The small soft white bits of ice
Is falling
From the sky of Toronto
On my shoulder
Onto the ground
Along its way
It is singing its song
Silent and light _________________ Time is nothing but a disquiet of the soul |

In their work entitled Discourses of Domination: Racial Bias in the Canadian English-Language Press, Frances Henry and Carol Tator explore dominant discourses that circulate in the free press so critical to democracy. Their work could hardly be more timely in the context of the so-called wars on terror — and dissent — with their discursive deficits and polarized thinking that help manufacture the mentalities they claim to report.
What follows is one excerpt regarding “PC talks”:
“The Discourse of Political Correctness
This discourse has become a central rhetorical strategy used by much of the mainstream media. It functions as an expression of resistance to forms of social change. Demands of marginalized minorities for inclusive language, pro-active policies and practices (e.g. employment equity or non-biased cultural representation) are discredited as an "overdose of political correctness." Those opposed to pro-active measures to ensure the inclusion of non-dominant voices, stories and perspectives dismiss these concerns as the wailing and whining of radicals whose polemics (and actions) threaten the cornerstones of democratic liberalism. Political correctness was a term frequently employed by journalists, editors, and columnists, for example, in both the case studies on employment equity and Avery Haines.” _________________ Time is nothing but a disquiet of the soul |

The PC talks about the Canadian multicultural mosaic idea against the American melting pot one are mere political rhetoric; the reality on the ground is the vertical mosaic of multicultural Canada.
Despite the official rhetoric of Canada being a multicultural mosaic and the United States being a melting pot, a majority of both Canadians (70%) and Americans (76%) believe that new immigrants should adapt to their new country’s way of life, emulating the melting pot model according to a new Dominion Institute survey conducted by Innovative Research Group in 2005.
A TTC Subway Car*
A TTC subway car is
A time capsule of Canadian mosaic society
Freezing the lived experiences of otherized groups
The passengers are coldly friendly, disgruntled
They cannot avoid each other
Forcedly making efforts to sit or stand side by side
They are all equal riders who pay the same fare
Guaranteed by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms
In the fast-moving multicultural subway.
*The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is a public transport authority that operates buses, streetcars, subways, and rapid transit lines in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The TTC operates 149 surface transit routes, of which 148 routes make 243 connections with a subway or rapid transit station during weekday rush hours. _________________ I'm Champagne,

Writing Yourself Home
Toronto, supposed to be a toran-ten* of cultures
Is full of your absence
In the midst of all the riches of multicultural languages
To notice that you are silenced is obscene
At present, your writerly job is not
To occupy a space and write it up
But rather to search words for your spacelessness
In so doing, that will write yourself home.
* The origin and meaning of Toronto is the Huron word toran-ten for “meeting place.” _________________ Time is nothing but a disquiet of the soul |
