[寄北]

Happy Valentine, everybody.

Ah, not too long ago, in the middle of the night, every night, my love phoned me to read me poems, sometimes love poems, such as the following:

A Red Red Rose

--Robert Burns

O my Luve's like a red, red rose
That's newly sprung in June;
O my Luve's like the melodie
That's sweetly played in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a' the seas gang dry:

Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi' the sun;
I will luve thee still, my dear,
While the sands o' life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only Luve,
And fare thee weel awhile!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho' it ware ten thousand mile.

Saw Robert Burns’ portrait and read his life in THE WRITER'S MUSEUM in Edinburgh. Quite an impressive man.

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

Didn’t realize ee cummings was a passionate man until I heard this poem.

The shadow
Of a bird settled an instant
On the transparent twig
Behind her eyes.

Then flew.

Now all my journeys
Begin at their destinations
I shall
Climb this violet mountain
From its snow-summit down.

This poem reminds me of Darcy and Elizabeth in Pride and Prejudice. When you find your true love, even if she flies away, you humble yourself. You come down from the “snow-summit” and try to share a violet path with her.
