Hi Mr Xu

This is Sandy again.
I have a question about courses i should take to get into US colleges.
This is the requirements I got from collegeboard.com for University of Pennsylvania:

High School Preparation
High school diploma or equivalent is not required

Required units:
Recommended units: 20 total
English 4
Foreign Language 4
History 3
Math 4
Science 4
Social Studies 1

as you can see, you need 3 history credits to apply, and I didnt have 3 history credits.

IS it the same for international students? I spent all my high school years in canada, so i will be applying as a canadian student.

Did your son take 3 history credits and 3 social studies credits when he applied to harvard? if convenient, can you tell me what courses he took during the 4 years of high school? my email is [email protected], thanks

also, do you know any way i can take history out side of school for credit (ie it shows on my transcript)? can you recommend some night/summer /private schools for it and how to register?

I do not think UPenn's requirements are mandatory for international students, neither for American students. Admission consideration normally varies from individual to individual. You may consider the requirements as a "suggestion".

I suggest you do not try too much to meet such kind of requirements. No matter how hard you try, you may still miss some things from other schools. What you should do is to follow your high school's requirements.
