This afternoon I received my award and made a speech to thank all the people who helped and supported me.

The following is my speech----


First, I want to thank you, John.B.Lee, to give this award to me. I am much honored.
Thank Bunny, published my first English poem and chapbook too. And I want also thank all of you for coming and sharing your love of poetry. When bunny called me about the great news, I couldn’t believe it. I felt so grateful and lucky. You never know how much it means to me, you never know how greatest encouragement this is to me. Thanks all.

Bunny invited me to read my poem, which is on TOP’s website. “Toronto, no more weeping” but I fear my reading will be boring. Instead, I would like to share my stories about the journey of poetry. It was not a long journey. I started 2 years ago. When my son Jason was 3 years old. I had the urge to write down things about him to let him read when he grows up. But since I also want to improve my English, so I decided to write in English.
One night I read the story” Emperor’s new clothing” to him. I started to think about us, as adults, we wear various masks; we were not as honest as children. So I wrote my thoughts as a poem and posted in a Chinese website. It got a few positive replies and encouraged me to keep on writing. A few days later, I wrote another,” Web, Spider and the wind” since I found some people didn’t appreciate others’ good thoughts and writings, but like the wind blowing trash and tearing others good spirits. I posted it and got a very quick response. It asked if I wrote it.
That was from Jacky, at that time we didn’t know each other, and I replied, yes. Then he replied he never know a Chinese immigrate could write English poems. He greatly encouraged me to continue. Since then we become good friends. I keep on writing and writing, along the way there were a lot of support and help for different people.
Two months later, my husband, Jack read news in Chinese newspaper about Chinese Canadian society. He suggested me to join. So I phoned the contact poet, James, I asked could I join, but I write in English. He said why not. So I joined. Since then I wrote poems in both languages.

But I hope to find English poetry society too. I went to library to ask for information. They gave me Top’s web site. So I found Tops and contacted Bunny. I came to TOPs’ event and loved it very much. So I joined this wonderful group. In this group, a lot of people helped me and encourage me, Thank you all.

Finally I would like to say, poetry to me is the greatest friend and mentor. Upon writing, it fills the empty holes in life and cleanses my heart. I hope the light of poetry continue pours to me along the future.
