Poem Text of He/She by Arnold Adoff
He:ggggggg:ehS
ThereggggerehT
isgggggggggggsi
hairgggggggriah
ongggggggggno
myggggggggym
upperggggreppu
lip.gggggggg.pil
Personal reflection:
In terms of genre, structure, theme, and writing techniques, Adoff’s He/She is a demanding poem which asks for imaginative reading strategies.
Do you have active, intelligent imagination? Can you tell me what this poem is about ? |

Its title implies this poem centers on the politics of self: gender, image. and power. _________________ Time is nothing but a disquiet of the soul |

This is a concrete poem in which "the typographical arrangement of words is as important in conveying the intended effect as the conventional elements of the poem, such as meaning of words, rhythm, rhyme and so on." _________________ 報三恩、耕三大福田 |

Brilliantly put.

Yes. Or some people would say it's visual poetry. |

What she said is the mirroered reflection of what he said. |
Furthermore, the poem challenges the reader to think why the same utterance can have completely different meanings when spoken by people of opposite sexes. _________________ This dark

Interesting!
This poem, as the title indicates, is made up of two sub-poems united visually on the screen. _________________ Time is nothing but a disquiet of the soul |

Yes to both of your comments.
Adoff explores not only the connotative meaning but also the typographic semantics of the text. |
