Musician Jokes
When Mozart passed away, he was buried in a churchyard. A couple
days later, the town drunk was walking through the cemetery and heard
some strange noises coming from the area where Mozart was buried.
Terrified, the drunk ran and got the priest to come and listen to it.
The priest bent close to the grave and heard some faint, unrecognizable music coming from the grave. Frightened, the priest ran and got the town magistrate.
When the magistrate arrived, he bent his ear to the grave,
listened for a moment, and said, "Ah, yes, that's Mozart's Ninth Symphony,
being played backwards."
He listened a while longer, and said, "There's the Eighth Symphony,
And it's backwards, too. Most puzzling."
So the magistrate kept listening; "There's the Seventh... the
Sixth...the Fifth..." Suddenly the realization of what was happening dawned
on the magistrate; he stood up and announced to the crowd that had gathered in the
cemetery. "My fellow citizens, there's nothing to worry about. It's just Mozart decomposing." |

After having heard his father's murderous acts of aggression against "silenced and otherized" people ("choke them with a blood dripping sock ... Label and tag one difference, pierce it through their earlobes"), the speaker of the poem responded, “you lack love and honor.”
Lack love and honor? Unbearable lightness of being of members of otherized people in Canada.
"No, I'll stand." Really? Did he really stand up to a racist father and stand up for the people discriminated against? DEFINITELY NO. PERIOD.
Unbelievable but understandable. They, father and son, still have the "ownership over justice, and apply this always" --"listen to their pleas for justice, provide hope as a 6 link shackle, [and] fashion it in gold."
The new rhetoric of hope -- "All hate must die" -- is still "a 6 link shackle."
Let your friend know my reply to his response to "a real life incident at my[his] former university [York University]" because I take time to read his poem and respond to it with honesty, which is based on my understanding of the dark chapter of Canadian history and lived experience of "Canadian" racism.
George Elliott Clarke writes in the forward to Afua Cooper's The Hanging of Angélique :
"The avoidance of Canada's sorry history of slavery and racism is natural. It is how Canadians prefer to understand themselves: we are a nation of good, Nordic, "pure," mainly White folks, as opposed to the lawless, hot-tempered, impure, mongrel Americans, with their messy history of slavery, civil war, segregation, assassinations, lynching, riots, and constant social turmoil.
Just as slavery is part of the US history, our denial of it is part of ours. Clarke sees the Cooper's book as catching us in a collective lie, and it certainly illuminates an undiscussed element of Canadian history. Cooper explains how Canada came to have slaves, what a slave's life was like, just as she illuminates the paradox of the Underground Railroad: American slaves came to Canada to be free and Canadian slaves often fled for the US. This is one of the most fascinating elements of the book, to me, the uncovering of this buried history. " _________________ Time is nothing but a disquiet of the soul |

Hi Eric,
I will bring your questions to him if he come to the event. I haven't meet him yet and don't know his religion or background.
There are many things happened around the world. It is good to hear from different view and voice. Thus we can think it deeply and observe the world better. |
