Dream And Reality

Dream higher, aim higher, achieve more.
A lot of people say so, but is this true?

Mr. Toastmaster and fellow toastmaster and welcomed guests.
Good evening.
Today my topic is Dream And Reality.

Dream, everyone has. As the time goes by, the dream we have always changed.
We all have big dreams, sometimes too high, that we lock them in our memory.
I remember when I was a young girl; I had a dream of my prince. Just like the movie Pretty Woman, he rode on a white horse, came to me.
I waited and waited in my whole youth, he never came. I finally woke up to the reality. Sadly I accepted:
First, I was not pretty; second, I never had a chance to see any grandee. Third: There was no wizard to help me. So even I had such a big dream, I was still a poor and ordinal girl.
So dream higher, what a waste!

But in fact this big dream really helped me in a different way.
Guess why? It let me be more concentrated on my future. Let me decline other admirers until I was more mature to make up my own decision.

So today I encourage my child to have his big and bigger dreams. Because I know there is so much joy and patience in the dream. There is also some possibility and potential in them. It is like light to pour on your road. It is like a kite to let you fly.

After flying and traveling on the road with these dreams, we are getting more experience and becoming more realistically, thus means what? Finally we are grown up. We know what the difference is between the big dream and reality.

Now what? Sad and depressed? Dumpping our dreams? What is your answer? Think it now!

In fact, we cannot easily and calmly toss them. They are always carved in our heart, in our past. We had so much feeling there. But the reality is reality, so true and so solid,
So what should we do?

The answer here is to face the reality. Dream must be planted into the reality. But how?

First we should find the foundation of our dream. I mentioned it before, dream like light, lights up our world; dream like kite, free our mind. For a kite, the key is the string. For light, the key is the light source. We need to ask ourselves, why I have the dream. Try to find the root reason.

F.g. I had the prince’ dream before. Then I found it no possible. So should I dump the dream?
No. In fact, I should find why I have this dream. I found the root reason was not that I wanted to join the royal family. The root reason was I wanted to marry happily. So happy life was what I wanted. Then basing on this, continue to ask, could other good guys bring happy life to me, the answer was yes. Yes. No matter if he was or not a prince, in my heart he would be my prince.
So later I shaped my dream to find a good person we would share happiness together. Image, if I still stickled to the old dream, I would never get married.

But in the other way, totally toss your dream, is also not wise. I remember I had a roommate. She wanted to find a perfect guy to marry. Each guy she made friend with, she always asked other people’s impressions. If their comments were not perfect, no matter what she felt about him, she began to doubt their relationship. And soon, she broke up with the guy. Then she went to find another, but the same story occurred again. Later, she didn’t believe love any more. She didn’t believe her dream.
She tossed her dream totally and went to marry a guy she never knew, but she knew then she could go to USA. A year later, she got divorced. Friends told me she was not happy.
Why could this happen? Because she never knew what was her true dream. And when she faced the reality, she failed to adjust it. The tossed dream was like shadow, shattered her later life.

So today I want to challenge all of you here. Face the reality, shape your dream, then go for it. You will succeed in your dream.

I joined a club for public speacking. Each topic is just 5-7 minutes.

I will try to be humor to attract the audience.

Dream and reality is a big topic, I only can speak a tiny portion of it.
