I've revised my piece.
One does not inhabit a country; one inhabits a language.

Interesting line.
I like the filmic metaphor employed here. |

Dickinson uses her poetry as an exploration of “faith.” In the concluding lines, she gives emphasis to the importance of "seeing": it is better to see with microscopes than to be sightless with “faith.” |
"Seeing" is a biblical metaphor, too.
Like most of her poems which are short and full of thought provoking twists, this poem is no exception. |

People portrayed in the photoshow show their dignity in a unique way.
Yet, never, in extremity,
[they] asked a crumb of [people]. |

I like this simple, metaphorical description of hope as a bird "perch[ing] in the soul" |
What is striking about this poem is its simplicity, both in structure it presents and in words it uses. |

Thank all of you for reading and commenting my story.

The story begins with silence and concludes with silence. In between these two types of silence, there is a process of transformation that takes place among characters. |
You read my story very well.
It's a story about a Chinese boy's awakening into a new language and about forming a new identity by breaking the silence. |

A Chinese boy, who recently arrived in Toronto, had attended his all-English kindergarten for three months without uttering any word. His kindergarten teacher had tried hard to engage him in reading picture books, playing with other kids, singing songs in English, and playing with coloured building blocks. But he remained disengaged, sitting alone in the corner of the classroom, keeping silent all the time. Sometimes he would suddenly walk out of the class, crying for Ma. His distant, reticent attitude concerned his teacher, and she didn't know how to deal with his adaptation problem.
One day, the class took a field trip to the Toronto Zoo. In the section named the Kids' Zoo, the boy immediately spotted on a colourful python wrapped several times around a truck of a tree inside a big glassed-in display case. He pointed at the python and turned his head to his teacher, joyfully yelling, "Me know this! Teacher!" Everyone else turned to him, opening their mouths without uttering any word. |

Compassionate Couch Potato
You want to leap through the TV into their world, to put your hands out and ease their pains. You only want to help, but you miss the number -- 1-800-9 something. You sigh, and sit back. Eventually, you sit through all of night programs. |
Compassionate couch potato? A oxymoronic phrase just like Bush's conception of Compassionate Conservative in a rapidly-changing society. |

A Heartfelt poem.
An immigrant is a hard-exercising athlete, engaged in an on-going tug-of-war between a longing for home and an enthusiasm for the unhomely.
Just a thought. |
